50 years of Education - Quote from Beverly Cleary. A prolific children's author, Clear is now 103 (born in 1916) starting school before most believed in education for all. Her memory "The first grade was separated into three reading groups—Bluebirds, Redbirds, and Blackbirds. I was a Blackbird. To be a Blackbird was to be disgraced. I wanted to read, but somehow could not." With the help of a school librarian who introduced her to books she enjoyed, Cleary caught up by third grade and started to spend a lot of time reading and at the library. By sixth grade, a teacher suggested that she become a children's writer based on essays she had written.

The JH Track meet scheduled for today, May 2nd has been cancelled. There is practice after school at Oakland 4-6pm.
The HS Baseball game scheduled May 2nd against Oakwood has been cancelled. There is no practice after school.
Today's, April 29th, HS Baseball Game against Villa Grove has been moved to Kansas at 4:30 p.m.
