Shiloh Jr. Beta members recently participated in the Illinois Beta Convention held in Springfield on March 5-6. The event showcased the talents and skills of our dedicated students, who had previously engaged in rigorous online competitions leading up to the convention, as well as on-site contests held during the event itself.
Before the convention, students tested their abilities in a variety of online competitions encompassing language arts, social studies, science, spelling bee, math, book battle, quiz bowl, and musicology. This diverse range of challenges allowed our students to showcase their academic talent and enthusiasm for learning.
During the convention, participants immersed themselves in on-site competitions that spanned multiple categories, including accessorized apparel, photography, marketing & communications, and engineering. These hands-on contests provided a platform for our students to demonstrate not only their academic excellence but also their creativity and practical skills in different fields.
The Illinois Beta Convention served as an invaluable opportunity for our students to engage with like-minded peers, learn from each other, and challenge themselves in a supportive and encouraging environment. The experience was not only enriching but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among our Beta members.
As the event concluded, our students expressed their excitement and anticipation for next year's convention. The Illinois Beta Convention has become a highlight for Shiloh Jr. Beta members, offering them a platform to grow, learn, and showcase their talents on a broader stage. We eagerly look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence and participation in the years to come.

Partnership in Parenting celebrated National Children's Dental Health Month at their last group connection. Summer Phillips with the Douglas County Health Department came to talk to families about good dental care. She shared details about how to keep teeth healthy and brought dental supplies for each child.
The children had a chance to practice the best brushing methods by helping "Magi" clean his teeth. While a bit shocking, the "Baby Bottle Tooth Decay" model showed how important it is to not put a baby to bed with a bottle, or to offer a sippy cup of juice all day long. Summer also provided information and supplies for other programs the health department offers.
The children used toothbrushes and shaving cream "toothpaste" to brush their happy tooth clean. Because it was also close to Valentine's Day, they decorated heart pictures with their fingerprints and enjoyed a pink-themed snack. Families received the "Brush, Brush, Brush!" book by Alicia Padron and Children's Press, and each PIP-Squeak chose a valentine book to take home.
