Students were introduced to what STEM is all about and participated in five hands-on STEM labs including: balloon-powered cars, catapults, electrical circuits, color-changing slime, and electrical circuits.
Students were also treated to a visit from Sycamore Sam who performed an elephant toothpaste demonstration. Event sponsor North American Lighting shared with students a real-life example of STEM in action: the invention and continued development of headlights. In December, Mrs. Wilhoit will conduct a presentation on student engagement at the Raising Student Achievement Conference. She will discuss the differences in teachers and administrators when it comes to their roles in student engagement. Her information on the support that administrators need to provide to teachers, providing outreach to the community and families, and building relationships with students is based on the data she has collected for her dissertation and through her own research.
