Partnership in Parenting had their June group connection at the Newman Regional Library. The library and PIP have teamed up for the Summer Reading Program. In keeping with the library's theme, "Find Your Voice," the group focused on kindness. After exploring all the library has to offer little ones, Ms. Lori read "The Kindness Monsters" by Little Hippo Books to everyone. All the children made faces along with the monsters in the story. They learned about different emotions and how to make the faces while looking in a mirror. PIP has also partnered with the library to create "Winston the Woolly Worm." Winston began with PIP-Squeaks painting rocks and displaying them outside the Newman Community Center. The library will have additional rocks available for anyone who wants to help him grow. Be sure to keep up with Newman Regional Library announcements to see where Winston moves to and how you can help him keep getting longer! After painting rocks, the children asked Ms. Lori to read "The Kindness Monsters" again because they enjoyed it so much, then each child chose a kindness book to take home. The July group connection will be held at the Newman Regional Library on July 19, at 9:30 AM, and the focus will be about feelings.

Partnership in Parenting met for their May group connection to bring together all their art work and pictures from the year into "My PIP Journal." The children were weighed and measured again to see how much they had grown since last summer. There was a lot of cutting and gluing going on to decorate the journals. Some of us enjoyed drawing with the markers more than others! The PIP-Squeaks made handprint poems for their moms in honor of Mother's Day, too. We also read " I Love You as Big as the World," a mommy book by David Van Buren. The soft illustrations by Tim Warnes prompted many comments and lots of pointing. The children took home their life-sized drawings and a new book, while the moms picked out colorful petunias. Next month we will meet at the Newman Regional Library on June 21 at 9:30 AM to kick off the summer reading program. The theme this year is "Find Your Voice," and the focus will be kindness.

When you hear the term speech-language pathologist (SLP), you might think of professionals who help kids with speech difficulties. And that’s not wrong. SLPs work on challenges like stuttering or trouble pronouncing word sounds. But SLPs also work on challenges that are related to language. That includes problems with communication and reading (understood.org). Thanks, Mrs. Honemann, for making a difference in so many lives!
