Last fall, Partnership in Parenting received the Blue Ribbon Award from the Parents as Teachers National Center (PATNC). To earn Blue Ribbon status, PIP underwent a rigorous 16-month process which confirmed that the program was meeting PAT standards of fidelity and quality.
Even though the PIP team was not able to attend, the program was celebrated in New Orleans this week at the Parents as Teachers International Conference. As announced at the recognition banquet, "Shiloh CUSD #1, Partnership in Parenting is considered an exemplary program, delivering the highest quality services to children and families.”

Families:
We are still seeing a lot of kids with symptoms of pink eye. If you notice that your child has red, irritated, or goopy eyes, please make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. DO NOT send them to school with pink eye.

Happy Principals’ Week to our principals! The National Honor Society ordered flowers, and Ms. Ennis’s Floral Design class delivered.

On Saturday, October 14, the US will be experiencing an Annular Solar Eclipse. We are not in the path of totality, but we should be able to see a partial (~50%) eclipse. The time frame is from 10:33 am to 1:23 pm with the maximum being around 11:55am. It is very important that you NOT look directly at the sun during this event (or anytime). Junior High students were sent home with a pair of Eclipse glasses so they could view the phenomenon tomorrow. Be sure to save the glasses for the Eclipse in April! They can also make a pinhole camera or watch the ground for shadows. It is supposed to be cloudy tomorrow, so looking at the ground for shadows may be the best option.

Here is a video with more information on what will be happening. It also talks about the Total Solar Eclipse that will happen on April 8.

The end of the 1st quarter is October 20th. The week of October 16th will be the last opportunity for students to turn in missing/late work for full credit. After next week, all zeros will remain zeros for the quarter. Our staff and students have been working tirelessly to get all homework and practice assignments completed with effort. We have seen great success!
Saturday, October 21st, we will hold tutoring at school for any students who need last minute help. We also have tutoring available Wednesdays from 2:10 to 3:10 for any student with missing assignments. Students who attend Wednesdays can ride the shuttle bus home. If you are interested in having your students come on Wednesdays, please just let us know.
By now, you should be receiving text messages and emails every time your student has a missing/late assignment. You should also be receiving weekly emails with a list of missing assignments. We send this on Fridays so you can utilize the weekend in helping your student get their late work completed. These text messages and emails are a way for us to ask for your help in getting late work completed and turned in.
We just about have our 1st quarter of The Power of ICU completed. We have learned quite a bit, but still have quite a bit of learning and improving to do. We will continue to make adjustments to the program. One of those adjustments will be to start assigning tutoring after school, on Wednesdays, and Saturdays on top of working lunches. All students can avoid any of these sessions by completing their work with effort on time. Students also have time during study hall, guided study hall, and at home to make sure their assignments and practice are completed with effort.
If you are not receiving text or email notifications, please contact Bill Myers at myersb@shiloh1.org or call (217)531-1850 ext. 4003, and your contact information will be updated.

Hello Shiloh families! We want to apologize for the craziness with the automated calls some of you received last night. We all got them too, and it was terrible! We contacted our service provider this morning and our client manager quickly responded with this message:
"I've been going back and forth with our tech team here about this, and they let me know that this same issue happened to other schools yesterday/last night too. Our provider confirmed that they ran into an issue that caused errant and excessive calls. They told us they resolved it earlier this morning, so we've been testing it repeatedly to make sure it's truly fixed and won't happen again. So far, no other issues. I know that made for a super frustrating evening, and I'm sorry."
We will not be able to send text messages for a day or two. As we tried everything possible to resolve the issue late last night into this morning we deleted all of our call lists so we will have to rebuild those. Please be sure to watch the website, Facebook, and your Teacherease emails for any school messages for the rest of today and tomorrow.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

Join us this week as we sit down with sophomore Clay Kibler on October 6's "Shiloh Shout Out!"
